Program accreditation
The AHPGS carries out the external evaluation and accreditation of Bachelor and Master study programs at Higher Education Institutions (HEI) on a mandatory and voluntary basis and thus contributes to their continuous development in terms of quality assurance management. For that, the AHPGS implements the analyses of the existing internal quality review system, determines its advantages and deficiencies, verifies the applicability of its results, and, finally, proposes new methods of efficient quality control. We help study programs expand their international recognition and increase their competitive power in academic accomplishments, research activities and teaching performance. Furthermore, the AHPGS assists study programs with the social and medical relevance of their profile and employability potential of their graduates.
A guideline for preparing the Self-Evaluation Report for international study programs can be found in our “Handbook for Program Accreditation” as well as a Template for the Self-Evaluation Report.
The Accreditation Commission of the AHPGS examines the documentation made available in the process of application, namely the HEI’s Self-Evaluation Report, its annexes, the summary comprised by the AHPGS, the expert report, as well as the HEI’s response opinion.
According to the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG), the reports will be published on our website.
For more detailed information on the procedure, kindly complete the Executive summary for the study programs to be accredited and send it via mail to ahps@ahpgs.de.
Institutional Evaluation
The AHPGS provides services within international reviews, including the implementation of institutional evaluations, by means of which the quality standards of higher education institutions (HEI’s) or parts of HEI’s (e.g. faculties) can be verified. Institutional evaluation examine various aspects of the institution, such as planned and current study programs, infrastructure, organizational and management structure.
The objective of the institutional evaluation performed by AHPGS is to provide HEI’s with the possibility of improving their internal mechanisms and quality management processes. AHPGS determines whether and to what extent higher education structures and control functions serve to achieve the set aims.
The procedure also provides an organizational tool for the management of the HEI and can be used as a non-binding precursor to institutional accreditation or system accreditation, as well as to increase competitiveness.
More information can be found in our Handbook for Institutional Evaluations.
According to the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG), the reports will be published on our website.
WFME Accreditation
The AHPGS received recognition status from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) in October 2023 for a period of 10 years. It is the first and currently the only agency to receive this for the countries Germany and Austria. Agencies with a so called Recognition Status are agencies that are recognized by the WFME for compliance with international standards in the accreditation of medical education programs. The procedure is comparable to program accreditation procedures. The decision is made by the AHPGS Accreditation Commission.
WFME-recognized agencies are critical to ensuring the quality and consistency of medical education worldwide.
